(Late) “Pre-Airing” Impressions: Winter 2020 Anime Season

Hey look, I’m fucking late again. I’m so good at this scheduling thing right?

Yes, I know some shows have had their first episode. I’m late. I’m lazy. I’m sorry(?). I haven’t watched anything from the season yet, so I’m still doing this.

Enjoy my (late) Pre-Airing Impressions for the Winter 2020 Anime Season.

Note: As usual, I’m not covering movies or specials in this post. This list is going to be long enough without them.

Haikyuu!!: To the Top – So Haikyuu!! is getting another season. That’s wonderful. I’m glad it’s still getting adapted after all this time. I don’t have an awful lot to say about it, since I’ve only seen the first 9 or so episodes of the first season, but I’ve really enjoyed what I’ve seen of it, and I’m sure it only gets better as it goes on.

I look forward to getting to this. Someday. Glad it’s coming.

Darwin’s Game – I’ve been pretty interested in reading the Manga for this for a long time, but I’ve never managed to get around to it, so I was pretty surprised when I saw it was getting an Anime adaptation.

And yeah, it sounds interesting. There’s not an awful lot to go by from the synopsis, but it seems like a death game kind of series, and as always those are right up my alley. I’ve seen people compare this to a cross between Gantz and Mirai Nikki so… Sign me the fuck up!

Plunderer – This one sounds really interesting, taking place in a world where everyone has a special number called a “Count”. When the count drops to zero, misfortune is placed upon them or something. The story follows a cute girl and a cool looking swordsman guy who’s Count is super low, so he’s like an outcast or something.

Sounds really cool and a few of my friends are really hyping this one up, so I’m looking forward to seeing what this is all about.

Magia Record: Mahou Shoujo Madoka☆Magica Gaiden – Oh wow, a new Madoka Anime. Interesting. This looks like it’s some kind of alternative timeline or something with a new protagonist? But Madoka and Homura are still in it as well? I’m not so sure.

I really like the Magical Girl genre. Magical Girl Site is in my Top 5 and I really enjoyed Magical Girl Raising Project and Cardcaptor Sakura. But Madoka is one of those shows that just never really clicked with me as much as it seemed to do with others. It’s not a bad show by any means, but it’s nothing I’d consider a masterpiece. It’s alright.

Will this new season click with me more? We’ll see. I look forward to it.

Somali to Mori no Kamisama – This one takes place in a fantasy world ruled by monsters, like goblins, where human beings are on the brink of extinction and follows the adventures of a golem and a human girl. Sounds pretty damn cool. I’m excited for this one.

A Certain Scientific Railgun T – It’s been how many fucking years? But we’re finally getting a new season of Railgun! And as a longtime fan of the franchise, that’s pretty awesome. I’ve been waiting for this for a very long time and I’m so fucking hyped! Let’s hope it was worth the wait.

Kyokou Suiri – Cute girl gets abducted by some youkai and gets asked to become their “God of Wisdom”. She then becomes the solution to all their problems or something? Sounds interesting if anything else. I’ll give it a look.

Eizouken ni wa Te wo Dasu na! – Cute girls making cute Anime. I’m sure this’ll be a good time.

Toilet-bound Hanako-kun – What a fucking title. It’s about a wish granting ghost of a little boy that haunts the girls bathroom. Alrighty then.

Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shoumei shitemita. – That’s a long name. Christ. Two scientists try to solve love through science. Also they love each other. This is bound to be hilarious.

Isekai Quartet 2nd Season – Hey look, Isekai Quartet got a second season. Neat. It’s a fun little series, and this time around Naofumi from Rise of the Shield Hero is going to be joining the cast as well. That’s pretty awesome. Looking forward to this.

Nekopara – This one has already started airing, and is predicted, it’s this years first seasonal punching bag. Fuck me. The morally superior woke folks sure are having a field day with this one, claiming that the show endorses paedophillia and child grooming or some shit? Jesus Christ.

I haven’t played the Visual Novel that this is based off, but it seems like a fun, cute and probably very hot Ecchi series about cat girls. And as a fan of cat girls, I will most likely enjoy the shit out of this. Fuck the haters.

Itai no wa Iya nano de Bougyoryoku ni Kyokufuri Shitai to Omoimasu. – Girl plays a VRMMO game and puts all her status points into defense, making her an ultimate defensive player, but shit at everything else. Sounds both awesome and hilarious. This’ll probably be one of my favourites of the season.

Pet – Follows gifted people who can enter people’s minds and control their memories. This sounds cool as fuck. Looking forward to this one.

ID: Invaded – A detective who’s daughter is murdered and who seeks revenge gets put in prison, and now helps the police catch criminals from prison using a special system that allows him to invade their identity. And it all ties into his daughters murder. Sounds intriguing, and with the first episode having already aired, I’ve heard some very good things about it. This’ll be a standout for me.

Dorohedoro – Lizardman: The Anime. Sounds kind of insane.

Ishuzoku Reviewers – I’m sure the community is going to have a field day with this one, given that it’s an Ecchi series with extremely young looking female characters.

Me? It’s totally up my alley and it’s being animated by fucking Passione so… Yeah. I expect this to be amazing. And hot.

Infinite Dendrogram – It’s another VRMMO Anime. There’s not a lot of information to go by from the synopsis, but I’m sure I’ll enjoy this one a lot.

Heya Camp△ – Apparently this is a spin-off of Yuru Camp△? I thought Yuru Camp△  was alright, so I’m sure this will be alright too. I guess. Cute girls going cute camping.

Koisuru Asteroid – Cute girls being cute astronomers.

Murenase! Seton Gakuen – Cute animal people going to cute school with a cute human boy and cute human girl also attending the school. And there’s romance. Cute.

Runway de Waratte – A short girl wants to be a fashion model, but struggles because of her height. Not really my thing, but I’m sure it’ll be cute.

Overflow – Just look at this synopsis:

“‘Brother, are we really taking a bath together?’ And so, a forbidden bathing experience began. Me, my sister, and childhood friend—one man and two women—are sharing one bath.”

I’m sure my good friend pik3rob is going to love this one.

Hatena☆Illusion – Cute girl being a cute magician.

Housekishou Richard-shi no Nazo Kantei – Handsome men solve not-so-handsome jewel-related cases. Definitely a unique premise.

Natsunagu! – A student visits Kumamoto after a dangerous earthquake in search of her missing friends. Bound to be a tear jerker.

22/7 – “Anime of the idol group 22/7.” I have no idea who that is.

Oshi ga Budoukan Ittekuretara Shinu – Cute girl is obsessed with a cute idol from a not-so-popular idol group.

BanG Dream! 3rd Season – The third season of this show I still haven’t seen a single episode of.

number24 – Cute boys playing cute rugby.

Yatogame-chan Kansatsu Nikki Nisatsume – I rather enjoyed the first season of this show, despite not being particularly well versed in the subtle differences between regional Japanese dialects. I look forward to more.

Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga – Nobunaga dies and is reincarnated as a dog in modern day Japan. What the fuck?

IDOLiSH7: Second Beat! – The second season of a show I did not see the first season of.

Show By Rock!! Mashumairesh!! – A new Show By Rock!! series. Is this a spin-off? Or a reboot? Or what? Looks fun.

Breakers – This is a pretty interesting one, focusing on para-athletes. This is a topic that Anime doesn’t cover too often, so I’m excited to see where they’ll go with this one. Looking forward to it.

ARP Backstage Pass – No synopsis. Looks gay.

Rebirth – No synopsis. Looks cute.

Hentatsu (TV) – No synopsis. No comment.

Healin’ Good♡Precure – No synopsis. But it’s Precure and I haven’t seen the last ten million seasons of Precure, so I won’t be watching this one.

Hulaing Babies Petit – Another reason of cute girls doing cute hula dancing. I need to watch the first season.

Marumaru Manul – Cats. It’s about cats.

And that’s everything. I’m sure. I’m positive. 99% certain. Let me know if I missed anything and I’ll add it here.

This season looks… Alright I guess. Honestly, there are a lot of sequels to shows I haven’t seen and while there are some interesting sounding shows, I’m honestly not sure what to expect from most of them. This season could go either way, but I’m hoping we come out on the more positive side. Let’s hope the year will be off to an interesting start.
