Writing is STILL difficult (a much needed update post)

Hello everyone. It’s me again. That lazy Anime blogger who actually wasn’t that lazy and who used to post multiple times a week but stopped doing that a long time ago because… Well, who really knows why?

I suppose I should just get straight to the point so… This is going to be an update post because I have an update. Sort of.

Get to the point!

I’m back! Again. Well, that’s what I’d want to say, but truth be told I don’t want to make any promises because anyone who’s followed this blog for a long time probably already knows that I’m not all that great at keeping them. At least I haven’t been recently. I took a lengthy break from blogging towards the end of last year because I lost my motivation to write and wanted to lose myself in a backlog of JRPG’s and old Nintendo games with the hopes that doing so would reignite my creative spark. And it did! For a time.

I banged out a post about Sword Art Online: Alicization which actually did really well due to it being a reactionary post towards the negative reception of the shows 10th episode. In my opinion it was also one of the best posts I’ve ever done since starting the blog. I also wrote a post about Kingdom Hearts III, which was around 2000 words of me gushing about what still is my favourite game of this year. But after that, things started to slow down again.

I pumped out the usual seasonal content, but aside from that, nothing else was really coming out. And then I decided to spend an entire month researching and working on a lengthy post about fucking Insane Clown Posse for some reason which surprisingly got some positive reception from a few of my readers, and that made me happy.

And despite that post not being read by a lot of people, it was the most fun I’ve had writing in a long time. It was something different, something unique and something that only I could have written. I felt motivated to write something, and honestly that’s been really hard recently. Again.

And there’s a reason for this. Life has been busy. Very busy. My job has become quite exhausting and while I enjoy it, I’ve found myself crashing as soon as I get home, having no energy to write or even think straight. My wife and I also finally moved into our first bought home and much of my time has been dedicated to settling in, going furniture shopping and all the other wonderful things that come with a new home. I’ve also recently been struggling to sleep at night which certainly hasn’t been helping things.

So yeah, I guess you could say things are a bit busy. And also I’m a little lazy. Just a little. Okay maybe a lot.

But writing that recent post made me realise something. I love doing this. Doing this is fun and it’s about having fun and I should just enjoy it. I think my biggest obstacle lately, outside of being busy and exhausted is feeling like I’m not writing enough or that what I’m putting out isn’t good enough.

I never used to care about that sort of stuff, and honestly I’m not sure why I do now. But I want to go back to having fun with this blog. Because that’s what it is. I write because I find it fun. I interact with this community because I love having conversations with my fellow anibloggers and online friends. I do this because I enjoy it. This isn’t a job to me, it’s a hobby, and I think me losing sight of that fact has been one of the biggest hurdles for me when it comes to writing anything recently.

So, with all that said, I’m going to start having fun again. And I’m going to do my best to write things. Like I said earlier, I’m not going to make any promises, because I’m not great at keeping them. I still have a Katekyo Hitman Reborn! Retrospective that I promised to finish and a defense of High School DxD post that’s been sitting in my drafts since November of last year that I promised I’d get out before this year rolled around. Are those still coming? Maybe. Eventually. I’d love to finish both of those projects. Someday.

I also want to just talk about specific shows more in general. Since I started this blog, I’ve always focused on broader topics relating to Anime, and sometimes video games, but I’ve rarely ever chosen to talk about a specific show or game outside of first impressions. And I’d kind of like to start doing that because I feel it’s never been something I’ve given a fair shot.

I don’t really like “reviews”, so it probably won’t be a review, but it’d just be more of a “here’s my thoughts on this Anime I watched” or whatever. So maybe you could call it a review after all? Just not in the traditional sense? I dunno…

As for the frequency of posts, I’d like to try and get things out more regularly. A couple of times a week. Maybe even more than that. Again, I’m not going to promise anything, but I’d like to. June starts tomorrow, and marks the halfway point of the year, so what better time to kick things into gear and try to make this second half of the year a more productive one?

And of course, interacting with you guys. I haven’t been keeping up with many of my fellow bloggers in the past few months, mostly because I’ve been stepping away from my own stuff. I feel bad about it, and I want to get back to regularly reading everyone else’s stuff too. So I’m going to make a conscious effort to do so. And if you ever want me to read something of yours, please send it over. I will read it!

And I guess that’s all I have to say, really. Writing is still difficult, but I think I’m learning to love it again. And I look forward to sharing more lethargic rambles with all of you.

To those who have stuck around in spite of my inactivity, thank you. You’re all amazing and I’m grateful to have you all as readers.

With that said, until next time, everyone!

    Think writing is hard?

    Try not writing.

    That’s hard _and_ painful!

Attempts at profundity aside, having an exhausting job makes writing and everything else a challenge. I’m glad to see you want to keep writing, because I enjoy reading your work. So, whenever you’re not wiped out, please do post what you can!

And I’m very interested in your High School DxD defense! The show’s criminally underrated…

  2. MY BOY! Glad to see you back for the time being. At least we have been active on Twitter even if we arent pushing out weekly content. I think a lot of us bloggers have hit a wall recently and sometimes it happens! We all deserve a break or two or three lol I’ll always be waiting for you when you do decide to come back full full time!

  3. Man, I’ve struggled with my enjoyment of writing and just getting lost in the fun of it for a while now. Blogging for me personally is a full-time job, but before that it’s always been a source of fun and a creative outlet. Sometimes I get so caught up in the technicalities of it that it makes me lose sight of that pleasure and that’s when I struggle and have a tough time putting out content. So, I’m glad you’re seeing that and hopefully can just kick back and enjoy it again without the other stressful things.

Congratulations!!! Getting your first house is amazing and wonderful news!!! Wishing you and the wife so much joy and love and new memories with the new home. That’s great, I’m so happy for you. 🙂

Sending you vibes of positivity and good sleep! Take your time with your blogspace. Will always be here to see what you put out when you are able to.

  4. Welcome back. Writing is a fun thing and I’ve been doing more of it with my fiction projects and posting poems on the main Ospreyshire blog. I’ve also had a lot of catharsis with the second to last post I did on my main blog as I got personal and mentioned harsh truths about a certain movie and anime series in correlation to morbid aspects of history. Just keep doing what you’re doing and thanks for checking out my last poem!
