In the medium of Anime, there are countless shows and movies out there that showcase some absolutely impressive animation. Especially in recent years, Anime is one of the most beautiful and fantastic looking forms of media ever brought to life.
And while I don’t necessarily think that visuals are the most important aspect of a series, I greatly appreciate it if a show goes above and beyond the normal standard and pulls out all the stops to make sure everything is as gorgeous and fluid as possible.
So what do I consider to be the most well animated Anime?
Redline
I knew right away that I was going to be picking a Madhouse title for this post. In my opinion, Madhouse are the most consistently high quality studio in the industry and I can’t really recall a show or movie handled by them that didn’t look absolutely gorgeous.
But Redline, a movie which took 7 years to complete with over 100,000 hand-made drawings used in its final production, by far takes the crown.
Not only did it take a horrendously long time to fully animate, it also looks spectacular. Throughout the entire movie, you can almost feel the amount of love, dedication and effort that was put into its production. It looks and moves like a movie that took almost a decade to complete.
The art style is bursting with colour and charisma. The animation is breathtaking and full of energy. There’s always some form of movement happening on-screen, no matter how significant or insignificant the current scene is. Redline feels alive, and it honestly spoiled my eyes on my first viewing.
I mean come on, just look at this stuff:
Redline is a movie about incredibly dangerous and over the top, futuristic, high-speed racing and the visuals do everything possible to make the movie feel like an exhilarating thrill ride. The entire movie feels as though it’s moving at ridiculously high speeds and it’s freaking awesome.
If you have an appreciation for quality animation, you should certainly give Redline a shot. It’s absolutely stunning.
And to top it all off, this is the Directors debut film. This is his first Anime movie. I shudder to think at the possibilities of what could come next from this guy.
I’m not a big talker when it comes to animation, so I can’t think of much else to say other than: watch Redline if you haven’t already and be amazed.
What Anime do you think has the best animation?
It’s always nice to see Redline getting some love.
As for what anime I think has the best animation, I would have to go with Your Name. Given that a decent bit of its frames were done with chalk, not to mention hand stitched, I can’t help but be impressed.

Nice to see more Redline fans too!
I haven’t seen Your Name yet, since I’m waiting for the Blu-Rays to get subbed (480p for a movie like that is just bleh and I missed out on seeing it in the cinema).
I’m hyped though if it’s animated to that level though!

I hope you drop a review on it when you eventually get around to it!

Absolutely. I’ll definitely need to talk about it at some point considering how popular it is 😛

I haven’t seen Redline, but I’m already inclined to agree with you seeing art like that. It’s not entirely hand drawn though is it? 100K is still a phenomenal number, and some of these scenes just look incredible.

I’m actually not sure how much of it is hand drawn, but apparently a very large percentage of the scenes are at least hand drawn.
That’s mostly why it took 7 years to complete. It was a product made to reminiscent of the older days of animation apparently.
It’s a really, really awesomely animated movie. I’d say it’s Madhouse’s finest work.

Have yet to see this movie, but from looking at the panels you included, it looks absolutely amazing. Thanks for sharing this one 😊

Redline is gorgeous but as someone who watched the dub the amount of action happening on screen made it hard to pay attention. Which is totally a #firstworldproblem and perhaps it’s a movie best enjoyed by Western audiences dubbed.

Do you mean you watched it subbed? 😛
I watched it dubbed which made it a lot easier for me to pay attention to everything that was going on. It’s definitely a movie made with a Western audience in mind.
